REPORTING · 30th July 2013

On Monday, July 29th, The day came for the books to be loaded onto the truck for Bella Bella. Aaron Lee and Kevin Dawson from Bandstra loaded between 100 and 120 boxes of books, movies onto the truck. Virgina Charron, the Library Director told us she was very pleased with the results.

“Today we’re having books for Bella Bella,” said Mayor Joanne Monaghan. “Their Library burned down not too long ago and having lived there at one point in time, I know how isolated they are. It occurred to me that perhaps the Kitimat people would be generous as they always are and open up their bookshelves and send some books down to Bella Bella.”

Bandstra picked up the books, free of charge to deliver them to Prince Rupert and BC Ferries. Captain Hopkins will pick up the books on August 5th. They will arrive in Bella Bella at 5:30 and they will be picked up from the Ferry.

The Vancouver area Rotary Club is sending up a Britco Trailer which has been transformed into a Library to house the books.

“Thanks to the community, thanks to BC Ferries and Thanks to Bandstra. It’s been a real joy to work with everybody because everybody’s so excited about it,” said Monaghan.

We were told there were still some books which were leftover for Kitimat’s Public Library book sale which will be held in the fall.
