REPORTING · 25th June 2013
A fundraising Barbecue, hosted by our local politicians MLA Robin Austin and MP Nathan Cullen, took place on June 15th. The funds raised went towards Kitimat Special Olympics.
“This year, we’re doing 5 across the Northwest. We hold an MP/MLA Barbecue but rather then pushing burgers, we try to raise a little money. It’s always great because some great donors come along and try and help out,” said Cullen. “We’re raising money for one of the best causes there is, helping folks get to special Olympics events and keeping the community strong.”
“We run sports for athletes from ages 2 and up and in Kitimat, we have curling, swimming and bocce starting up,” said Tina Readman, Regional Coordinator for Special Olympics. “There is a group of two athletes going to Langley in July. They are competing in Soccer.”
Readman told us this is raising funds for 15 athletes, although more children could be supported by this. it is still possible to donate to special Olympics by contacting a Special Olympics Parent or member of the board.
