Kitimat Marlin Swim Club
Two swimmers from the Kitimat Marlins swim club attended the 35th annual Hyack Youth Cup Invitational Swim Meet in New Westminister. With over 400 hundred swimmers in attendance from across BC, Washington, Oregon and Newfoundland and the fact that each swimmer must be a AAA Provincial qualifier to attend made the competition fierce. The Marlin swimmers held their own though and had some great results.
Alivia Salema (12) competing in the 12 and under girls category had some excellent results. She made finals (top eight finishers in the heats compete in finals for medals and cash) in a number of events. Salema placed 4th in the 400 meter Individual Medley and 400 freestyle as well as a 5th in the 400 freestyle.
Kleanza Cathers (13) competing in the 13-14 girls category placed 8th in the 50 freestyle as well placed 10th in the 400 IM. She achieved her second Far Western qualifying standard in the 400 IM allowing her to compete in Western USA’s most important age group swim meet, Far Western Championships. Far Western Champs this year will be in San Jose, California.
