Several Local Drama Students, attending Mount Elizabeth Secondary School, will be attending Provincials in New Westminster next week after their success at the North West Zone Highschool Drama Festival. To help fundraise, the Mount Elizabeth Theatre is putting on a "Celebration of the Arts" this Saturday at 8 PM, entrance by donation.

“On Saturday, we are having a celebration of the arts. We are fundraising to get our Drama Students, who won zones, off to provincials,” said Rick Jones. “We’re going to have a number of acts including speech arts, piano, dance, and vocal performances from teachers and students. We will also be displaying some artwork from Maureen Atkinson’s class.
The second act is going to be the play "Conflagration", which is going to Provincials May 2-5.

The play stars Chelsea Bossence and Makenzie Matthews. Matthews plays one character while Bossence plays 8. It is a progression through the one characters life and the pitfalls which she goes through due to an accidental experiment. The play is written by J. J. Jonas.

Also involved in the production are Stage manager Andrea Sanders-Crouch, Tyler Harnadek on Sound, Leah Anthony on Lights, Brittney Hawkins and Haley Card backstage.

They fly out on 2nd of May to perform this play in New Westminster at Douglas College. They will perform it again for the Skeena Zones in Terrace when they get back. It is on the 18th of May.

“After our students had performed at Zones, this is what the adjudicator, Steve Keitzmann, said: ‘They had left him speechless. He told them that their play would succeed in a West End London Setting. He told Chelsea that, in his humble opinion, she was nearing perfection; that Makenzie’s character was dead on. He was blown away by the technical aspect and was going to treat our performance as a professional production.’” said Brenda Feldhoff, Theatre Manager.

At Zones the students won Outstanding performance in Leading Roles, Outstanding Backstage Ensemble,Greatest Gizmo, and the honour of representing the zone at Provincials.
