Kitimat Marine Rescue`s Snowflake Responder was tasked to locate an overdue vessel on wedensday afternoon . The 26 foot sailing vessel with 4 POB was reported overdue by a concerned relative . The vessel was reported to be travelling between Kitimat and Bishop Bay.The sailing vessel was located at Weewanie Hotsprings with an engine that would not start and a low battery. The vessel was taken in tow and returned to MK bay at 11:00 that night.

In this case there was person on shore that suspected something may be wrong when the vessel did not return as planned .

A sailing plan is an important step that ensures your safety on the water. Always tell someone ashore where you are going and when you will return . Include number of people on board ,description of vessel and name of vessel.

When you return advise the person ashore you are home .

If you are concerned about an overdue friend or loved one AIR OR MARINE EMERGENCY telephone number is in the important numbers section in the phone book 1-800-567-5111. This will get Joint Rescue Coordination center in Victoria. They will listen to your concerns and task the appropriate resources.
It is better to do this earlier rather than later.Searches are much more difficult in the dark.

The Douglas Channel and area is beautiful ,big and remote , especially at this time of year so please take the extra steps and be prepared.
