Kitimat’s talented high school students are going to take to the stage once more for their Musical Theater Performance. This year’s Performance is “Into the Woods,” a play written by Stephen Sondheim

“We are doing a play called into the woods. It is Grimm’s Fairy Tales which were 100 years old last year. It is a compilation of a lot of different fairy tales put together. Things like Cinderella, Snow White, Jack and the Beanstalk, the Bakers Wife. Sondheim put them all together and created a storyline where they all interact,” said Theater Teacher, Rick Jones.

The play is built around morals. In act one, we learn how the characters achieved their deepest wishes and lived happily ever after. In act two, the characters learn of the consequences of achieving their dreams as the sometimes, the consequences are not what they wanted.

This year’s class consists of 32 students and 20 volunteers who are outside the classroom working on the show. They were able to bring some Grade 10s into the theater class and two of them are in lead roles as Little Red Riding Hood and Cinderella.

There are a lot of things hidden in the scenery. Rapunzel’s tower is climbable and Jones stated he does not want to give much away before the performance.

“I’m encouraging everybody to come out and see the show. It’s the 18th, 19th and the 20th. The 25th and 26th, the 20th is a matinee,” said Jones. “It is an excellent show.”

Tickets are available at Gone Hollywood Video and at the door. The show starts at 8:00 Pm for the evening shows and 2:00 Pm for the Matinee.
