Families in Kitimat rang in the New Year with Kitimat Leisure Services on Monday, January 1st, New Year’s Eve. The pool was open for a free swim and the Tamitik Arena was open for free skating.
“It’s our annual New Year ’s Eve family event and we’re having quite a few people turning out which is nice. We have free swimming, free skating, we have free skate rental and we have a Christmas carol quiz to win a Wii-U,” said Marcy Rice.
There were plenty of refreshments. Pizza from Pizza Factory was on Deck at the pool and the Shames Mountain Club was out selling refreshments at the Skating Rink. Tim Horton’s provided 400 donuts for the evening. Finally, the Snow Valley Skating Club provided popcorn for the end of the evening.
The goal was to provide a safe place for Families to ring in the New Years.
Rice gave special thanks to Devin Archibald at Tim Horton’s for being able to provide the donuts for the event at the last minute.

Just to rephrase the thank you to Tim Horton's. We wanted to thank Devon for providing the donuts, after only being open for two days. The order had been anticipating them opening on the 21st.

I am new to the city, although my wife grew up her, and I was absolutely AMAZED by this wonderful event. What a treat to be able to ring in the New Year at such a fabulous event. Thank you to the organizers, and to the attendees for making this a truly memorable evening.
