REPORTING · 23rd November 2012
Replacing the Duck Creek Bridge returned Council at their Regular Meeting on Monday, November 19th. Earlier this year, on October 22nd, Kitimat Council saw a presentation about the bridge, which is located on Rio Tinto Alcan property, but is used by the community to access recreation areas around Kitimat.
In a memo to Council, Municipal Manager Ron Poole explained Apache has come through for the community, shouldering $40,000 for the replacement bridge. While $60,000 is still needed, 5 other businesses have stepped up to the plate. He recommended Kitimat Council provide up to $12,000 to finish getting the bridge in.
Councillor Edwin Empinado made the motion. It was called and carried. Councillor Rob Goffinet commented the cooperation between the different groups coming together quickly to support the community was a good sign.
Councillor Phil Germuth thanked Poole for getting the process going. The motion was called and carried.
