Jessica Goncalves came before Council representing the Snow Valley Skating Club on Monday, November 19th.

“Tonight, the Snow Valley Skating Club is requesting support through the major events sponsorship grant to assist our organization in hosting the Caribou North Central Regional Championships in Kitimat,” said Goncalves.

The event is set for the Kitimat Tamitik Arena and Kitimat Ice Rink from February 15th, 16th and 17th in 2013. 23 Figure Skating Clubs from around the Province will be invited.

“Participants along with their families, coaches and club organizers will be using Kitimat’s accommodations, restaurants and local shopping. This competition can expect to bring 150 – 200 people from all over the Province, some for the first time, to visit and stay in Kitimat during this event,” said Goncalves.

The club’s volunteers are working hard and fundraising for a successful event. However, they do not have the money they need to pull it off.

“The citizens of Kitimat will have the opportunity to watch the high quality skating competition which we don’t have the pleasure of seeing often in our community. This competition will be free to spectators,” said Goncalves.

A motion came forward from Councillor Rob Goffinet to approve the grant of $3000 for the Caribou North Central Regional Championships. The motion was carried.
