Kitimat had a temporary Fire Chief on Friday, November 2nd. Cadence Peachey, a grade three student from Nechako got to be the Fire Chief for the day. Fire Chief Peachey was excited to have won the honour.
“Chief Peachey is out and about directing the guys and conducting business for the Fire hall right now,” said ‘Former’ Fire Chief Trent Bossence. “Her responsibilities will be making sure the guys are operating in an effective manner in regards to their duties and their day to day activities at the fire hall and direct them in a day today manner.”
Peachey was treated to a tour of the Public Safety Building courtesy of Fire Fighter Justin Bogaert, a Lunch from A&W eaten with the Fire Fighters and Councillor Rob Goffinet, who was representing Mayor and Council.
Following lunch, she was presented with several gifts and asked to sign a declaration thanking Kitimat’s media outlets for informing people of Fire Prevention Week. When asked what the best thing she did all day was, Peachey replied it was instructing the Fire Fighters on what to do.
The Fire Department is reminding people: “It’s that time of year where it is freezing at night and snowing. Road conditions can become slippery and unpredictable so we ask that everyone slows down, adheres to the road conditions that are in front of them at the time. Winter tires are important, absolutely,” said Bossence
