REPORTING · 18th October 2012
The Telethon will be fast upon us, this Sunday, October 21st, from 11 am to 9 pm. The theme this year is All Come Together. It will be aired on Channel ten, Citywest. We here at the Kitimat Daily will also be streaming it.
Monique Miller will be hosting the Telethon this year. She is being flown up courtesy of Hawkair and Mayor Joanne Monaghan. This will be her last year hosting the Telethon.
“She is a very busy woman and we need to grow some of our own talent here as well. We have some very talented people here,” said Wendy Kraft at last Wednesday’s meeting.
Acts are coming together. Rehearsal is scheduled for this Saturday and the Telethon is set to close out with the Ruel Pangan R&R band. Over 19 performers will be performing at the Telethon this year.
Margaret Warcup stepped forward at Council to speak about the Act Telethon on Monday, October 15th. She invited Mayor and Council to come out and support the Telethon.
“Act is our fundraiser event for the Kitimat Community Foundation,” said Warcup. “Everything is up and running and getting ready to go.”
She said there will be multiple events going on throughout the day. Food venders will be in the Cafeteria for lunch and dinner. There is also a Kids Zone hosted by the Child Development Centre.
“We’ve raised our first $50,000. We’ve had it matched by Northern Development [Initiative] Trust,” said Warcup. “Now we want to build our fund. But as we build our fund, we are also raising moneys for flow through funds so we will be supporting those none profit agencies in our community with their needs next year, depending on their applications.”
Councillor Rob Goffinet wanted to know how much it would cost to go to the theatre and be a part of the show. “It costs nothing to come and be entertained and be a part of the community,” said Warcup.
