The Kitimat Annual Report and Statement on Financial Information for 2011 was approved by Council on Monday, October 1st. The report is available at City Hall and at www.kitimat.ca
. Councillor Rob Goffinet moved to approve the Report.
The Annual Report contains the financial information for 2011, showing where tax dollars were spent. It also contains Mayor Joanne Monaghan’s message to the community for 2011, a dossier of all the current City Councillors, information on all of the different Departments within the District and fun facts and statistics on the community. It even includes a full page ad for Retire in Kitimat.
Having read the document, Councillor Corrine Scott struck up a notice of motion for a discussion on their rates for sewer, water and garbage. She pointed out she was aware the houses on Kitamaat Village Road and in Cablecar were not connected to the District Sewer System but was unaware if they paid for sewer access.
Councillor Mario Feldhoff replied water and garbage were flat fees. Sewers were based on home assessment rates.
Councillor Mary Murphy stated through reading the Financial Report, people have access to information on the amount of money the City Councillors make as well as information on their expenses.
The Financial Report provides more information than just that. It provides information on how much money each employee who makes over $75,000 earns as well as their expenses. It also lets people know which businesses in town Council is spending the bulk of their money on. The final part of the report is the list of grants which the District of Kitimat gives out every year.
The motion to accept the report was called and carried.
