Mayor Joanne Monaghan once again delivered her good news at the Regular Meeting of Council for Monday, October 1st.
“First of all, I want to thank Council for their hard work meeting with ministers at UBCM. They also attended many workshops which gave them very busy days,” said Monaghan.
She thanked the community gardeners for their hard work in maintaining Kitimat as a Garden City over the summer. “They did a wonderful job this year,” said Monaghan.
She stated there is a meeting coming up later this week between Council and Rio Tinto Alcan. One of the topics of the meeting will be water access.
Monaghan told the people of Kitimat Tim Horton’s is making great strides towards completion and their opening date in December. She is looking forward to their grand opening.
Her next bit of good news is the work by Warren Waycheshen to obtain new Council Chambers for people with disabilities, chambers which are accessible by wheelchair. He has also been working on the issue of the airport bus.
Council met with John Ross, the new representative for Northwest Community College. Council will be working on apprentice programs for people in Kitimat.
The Ferry Task Force will be meeting and having a conference call with the ministry and BC Ferries.
Monaghan also talked about the PNG and Kitimat LNG.
