On Sunday, September 23rd, the Suede Boutique and Suede Hair Studio held its grand opening. The Boutique is located in Mountain View Square, down from the BC Liquor Store.

“[The Suede Boutique] is a men’s and woman’s clothing store and Suede Hair Studio is a hair studio,” said Janice Thurber.

“It is a little bit of a mixture of old meeting new. It’s Rustic-y, it’s Country-ish, it’s shabby chic-ish,” said Ceara Abreu.

They expressed the reaction to the store has been amazing so far. Mark Lefranc expressed the store was unique and much needed in the community.

What stands out in the store is the combination of old meets new. Old furniture and items have been recycled to create shelves, decorations and work areas. A lot of work went into the store.

“It was a group effort from all of us. Five weeks went into renovations. The design had input from everyone who works here,” said Lefranc. We wanted to make a store that didn’t feel like going into a store. We wanted to make it cozy and warm and inviting and the coffees always on and the treats are out.”

The look and feel of the store has been compared to going into a shop in downtown Vancouver.

“A great addition to Kitimat for sure,” said Thurber.

They celebrated the grand opening with cake and coffee, door prize draws and in store discounts.

Great to see new business opening at home. Was the Mayor there for the opening or were there politcal reasons on this one too?

Great job Janice and Mark, awesome addition to Kitimat. Just what Kitimat needs, more stores and something different.
