REPORTING · 16th July 2012
Walter McFarlane
Kitimat City Council is preparing a full schedule of meetings for the 2012 UBCM. On Monday, July 9th, Council brought forward the representatives they wanted to meet with and the issues they want to meet with them about.

Councillor Mario Feldhoff expressed he wanted to speak to the opposition. He stated the topics he would like to speak to them on include the West Side Road and the number of extended care beds at the Hospital. He suggested meeting with the Leader of the Opposition, Adrian Dix.

Mayor Joanne Monaghan stated Dix would be in Kitimat at the end of the month. Another MLA from the NDP will also be in Kitimat later this Month. Feldhoff withdrew his recommendation. Monaghan stated the request to meet with Council had come in earlier that day.

Councillor Corrine Scott suggested meeting with Premier Christy Clark and the Ministers of Health and Transportation. She wants to meet over access to the water, notably, the creation of an East Side Road for recreation. Like Feldhoff, her issues included health and the West Side Road.

Councillor Rob Goffinet had similar request, but wanted to meet with the Minister of Energy of Mines, the Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Innovation and the Minster of Environment.

Both Councillors Mary Murphy and Phil Germuth concurred with the recommendations.

Finally, Mayor Joanne Monaghan requested a meeting with the Minister of Aboriginal of Affairs.

A motion was made by Councillor Corrine Scott to have administration book the appointments. It was called and carried.
