Mayor Joanne Monaghan gave out the Community Recognitions Awards to distinguished citizens on Canada Day, July 1st.

The first award went to Pat Lovegren, a dedicated volunteer for the Kitimat Library, Legion and Snowflake Seniors Centre.

Lois Godfred received the next award for her a volunteer work for Kitimat Girl Guides, who works with the Kitimat Food Bank, Girl Guides and On Cue Players.

Denise O’Niell was given an award for dedicated Service for her work at Kitimat Community Services.

Tilly Bachmann was given an award for her work at the Kitimat Seniors Centre, the Luso Canadian Association, German Canadian Club and the Women’s Legue.

Al Marleau was given a reward for his run in the Relay for Life, he was the first participant to run 24 hours.

Some Recognition of Excellent Awards were given to Alivia Salema, Paige Collier, and Brander Pacheco for the awards they brought back from the Swim Meets.

Brant Rice was given an award for motor cross achievements.

Rachel Rice, Alia Anthony, Taylor Reeves, Emma Baker, Makalai Stevenson, and the coach, Garry Mouland were all given an award for their success Provincial curling championships.

Finally, the Kitimat Ice Demons came up to receive an award for their silver in the Coy Cup. Jeremy Brady, on behalf of the team, they thanked their sponsors and fans. They have been doing this for ten years and will see you in September.

Awards for Karate success at the BC games went to Eve Mitchell, Kaitlin Mitchell and Katherine Ocsovai.
