Watch videos relating to Canada Day on Kitimat Daily Videos

The skies might have been grey but a little bad weather was not enough to slow down the Canada Day Parade in Kitimat. Floats, very important persons and marchers came out.

As always, the Royal Canadian Legion, RCMP, Firefighters and Ambulances headed off the parade. Mayor Joanne Monaghan, MLA Robin Austin and MP Nathan Cullen were present this year.

Other groups participating included the Ice Demons, The Kitimat Public Library and Riverlodge’s Summer Youth Program. Both Rio Tinto Alcan’s Dragonboat Team and the Haisla Nation paddled past in boats.

There were four awards categories this year. Overwaitea foods, who won the award for Best Business, Best Service went to Douglas Channel Watch, Best Youth was won by the Kitimat Dynamics Gymnastics club and the best overall was the Canadian Auto Workers.
