Municipal Manager Ron Poole set the stage. He explained four Councillors had shown interest in going to the conference. Set after UBCM, a majority of the Councillors were already going to be in Vancouver.
Due to the cost, and the fact there is a Council Meeting set for Monday, October 1st, Poole suggested one person go. He pointed out there was a member of the Retirement Kitimat Task Force was going to attend as well.
Councillor Rob Goffinet said he was going to be in Vancouver anyway so he would incur no added expenses. He suggested moving the Council Meeting so the Councillors who wish to attend because it would benefit their professional or volunteer lives.
Feldhoff suggested a motion to allow Council to find their own accommodations but Goffinet pointed out it would put the Monday night meeting at risk.
Councillor Mary Murphy wanted to move the meeting from October 1st to later this week so they could have quorum. She was told they can not be moved. She wanted to attend as well but she could not because the Council Meeting came first.

Just to clarify the statement that a member of the Retire in Kitimat Task Force will be going to the COSCO Conference. Yes, I will be going to this excellent conference and, yes, I am the chairperson of the Retire in Kitimat Task Force. The two are not connected however.
I have been elected by the Kitimat Retired Teachers Association to be their delegate to the conference and my expenses will be paid by the our provincial association, the B.C. Retired Teachers Association.
I will be formally reporting back to the members of the Kitimat Retired Teachers Association not the Retire in Kitimat Task Force although some of the knowledge I gain will undoubtedly be of interest to the Task Force. I would be happy to share what I learn with any community group in Kitimat that is interested.
I am happy to see that at least one councillor will attending this very informative conference.

Why do we need a Retire Kitimat organization now that the real estate prices have gone up ?
