On the morning of November 08, 2009, Kitimat resident Arek Rejczak suffered a stab wound and died after being taken to the Kitimat hospital. Last week the murder trial of the accused, Robert Purchase, began in Court Room Number 3 in Terrace.

A jury of 12 was selected from a group of 80 who sat through the evidence of the last two weeks. This morning, Thursday, June 21, the judge gave the jury their final instructions and they left the Court room to determine the fate of Purchase.

The jury can deliberate until 10 pm this evening and come back to the Courtroom with a decision just before noon today. After 10 pm they will take the eveing off and then begin again tomorrow morning.

After deliberating until 9 last night, the jury came back with a decision today. Purchase was convicted of the original charge of 2nd degree murder.

He will return to court in August for sentencing.
