The Coast Mountains Board of Education is pleased to announce the following leadership staffing appointments for the 2012/2013 school year:

Jane Arbuckle
Currently the Principal of Thornhill Junior Secondary School, Ms. Arbuckle is moving to Caledonia Secondary School to assume the position of one of two Vice Principals. She holds a Bachelor of Education Degree in Psychology from Dalhousie University and a Bachelor of Education Degree from St. Francis Xavier University. Her graduate degree is a Master of Education Degree from the University of Victoria in Leadership Studies. Ms. Arbuckle has demonstrated exemplary leadership in serving as TJS Principal during their closing year and her knowledge of Thornhill students and families and her reputation as an outstanding teacher will serve Caledonia Secondary well.

Darlene Bragg-Hounsell
Currently the Principal of Cassie Hall Elementary School, Ms. Bragg-Hounsell is moving to assume the
position of Principal, Thornhill Primary School. She holds a Bachelor of Education Degree with a primary/elementary specialty from Memorial University of Newfoundland and a Master of Education Degree in Literacy from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax. The focus of her research project was Guided Reading. Ms. Bragg-Hounsell has served as Cassie Hall Principal since 2006 and has effectively led the school in areas of literacy and assessment strategies. She brings a strong background in primary education and collaborative approaches to building an effective instructional team to Thornhill Primary School.

Alison Campbell
Currently the Principal of Thornhill Primary School, Ms. Campbell has been appointed Vice Principal of New Hazelton Elementary School. She holds a Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Alberta specializing in Elementary Education and Special Education and a Master of Education Degree from the University of Victoria where her thesis focused on Parental Involvement in Schools. Ms. Campbell is returning to her home community of Hazelton where her knowledge and passion for early
learners and her knowledge of formative assessment and literacy strategies will serve New Hazelton well.

Cathy Kennedy
Currently the Vice Principal of Uplands Elementary School, Ms. Kennedy is moving to Skeena Middle School to assume the position of one of two Vice Principals. She holds a Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Victoria with a Language Arts specialty and a Master of Education Degree from the University of Northern British Columbia with a focus on multi-disciplinary leadership and special education. Ms. Kennedy is a team player and a strong advocate for the success of all learners. Her energy and enthusiasm for kids is a perfect fit for the Skeena Middle School Leadership Team.

Bill Lenuik
Currently the Vice Principal of Thornhill Junior Secondary School, Mr. Lenuik is moving to assume the position of Principal, Thornhill Elementary School. He holds a Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Victoria specializing in English and Social Studies and has extensive teaching and Department Head experience in those areas. Recently he has started graduate work in the area of Leadership Studies from Vancouver Island University.

Mr. Lenuik has demonstrated exemplary leadership in serving as TJS Vice Principal during their closing year and his knowledge of Thornhill students and families and his reputation as an outstanding teacher will serve Thornhill Elementary School well.

Carol Pickering
Currently the Principal of New Hazelton Elementary School, Ms. Pickering will remain in that position while assuming responsibilities for the coordination and delivery of learner support services in the Hazeltons and Kitwanga. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in psychology from the University of Buenos Aires, Education Certification from Medaille College and a Master of Education Degree from Brock University in Integrated Studies. Recently she has completed advanced study modules in Special Education through Brock University in St. Catherines Ontario. Ms. Pickering is an exceptional educator with a thorough knowledge of instructional and assessment strategies for all learners, including those from diverse and rich cultural backgrounds. She is passionate about success for all learners and will bring great insight and commitment to making a positive difference for students in the Eastern region of the Coast Mountains School District.

Sheila Thorhaug
Currently the Vice Principal of Cassie Hall Elementary School, Ms. Thorhaug is assuming the Principal position at the same school. She holds a Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Saskatchewan specializing in Early Childhood Education and Reading and a Master of Education Degree from Simon Fraser University in Curriculum and Instruction. Ms. Thorhaug is an outstanding teacher and school leader and her knowledge of instruction and assessment strategies, her reputation as a team player and her strong commitment to Cassie Hall learners and their families will serve the school well.
