On Monday, April 30th, the Annual Appointees Dinner was held at the Hirsch Creek Golf and Winter Club. The Dinner was a way to thank all the people of Kitimat who volunteer for commissions and task forces which keep the town going.

Mayor Joanne Monaghan welcomed and thanked everyone for coming. She quoted John Wesley: “Do all the good you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all times you can, to all people you can, as long as ever you can.”

After dinner, Monaghan thanked the kitchen staff and called upon each of the City Councillors to introduce all the commissions and their volunteers. They introduced the Advisory Recreation Commission, the Advisory Planning Commission, The Traffic Commission, the Advisory Commission for Persons with Disabilities, the library and the Museum Board.

Also present were the Coordinators from the Kitimat Emergency Plan, the camera volunteers who film the Council Meetings and the representatives of Citizen Court.

Several volunteers were retiring from their commissions. Tim Carter retired from the Advisory Planning Commission, April McLeod left the Advisory Recreation Commission, Patricia Lovegren retired from the Library Board, Karen Anderson retired from the Museum Board, Socorro Gutierrez who also served on the Museum Board and Eileen Hutson, another person who served on the Museum Board.
