REPORTING · 18th April 2012
Walter McFarlane

As always, Mayor Joanne Monaghan had her good news on Monday, April 16th. She expressed that on April 5th, she met with home schooled children in the Council Chambers so they could learn what City Councillors do.

She gave out the award to the Haisla Senior Woman’s Team for their win at the Basketball Tournament. Monaghan thanked Councillor Mario Feldhoff for giving the awards to the men’s team, Lights Out.

The Mayor then crossed the Council Chambers to unveil the plans for the hotel at the mall.

“This is the new hotel at the Mall. The owner of the Mall, Mr. Minni has asked me to announce to you tonight the development of a hotel in the Mall Complex. It will have 44 units and a conference room,” said Monaghan.

She explained Minni has filed for approval of the hotel, subject to building permit. Public notice goes out this week and there will be a handbook at the District of Kitimat concerning this project and the up and coming Tim Horton’s.

Monaghan also cleared up the rumours going around town concerning the location of the Tim Horton’s which will be near the hotel. She stated it will be put on a stretch of land adjacent to Gone Hollywood Video.
