Minister of Transport
The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointment of Chief Elmer Derrick of Terrace, British Columbia, to the board of directors of the Prince Rupert Port Authority for a three-year term.

"I am pleased that Chief Derrick has agreed to serve on the board of the Prince Rupert Port Authority," said Minister Lebel. "His vast experience and knowledge in business development and aboriginal affairs will be valuable assets to the authority."

Chief Derrick holds a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Alberta and a bachelor's degree in political science from Carleton University. He is currently the chief negotiator for the Gitxsan Treaty Society.

In recent years, he has served as a volunteer co-chair of the Northwest Powerline Coalition, working to promote the development of north western British Columbia with the construction of energy infrastructure. He has also served as spokesperson for the Northwest Forest Coalition and provided counsel to different corporations, governments and non-government organizations seeking advice on developing viable business relationships with aboriginal organizations.

In the early 1990s, Chief Derrick worked for the Province of British Columbia as regional development officer for the North Coast Region. He also taught political science and economics at Northwest Community College and later taught First Nations studies at the University of Northern British Columbia.

In the 1970s, Chief Derrick worked for the Assembly of First Nations in Ottawa and served as director of Operations for Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada in Toronto.

The Prince Rupert Port Authority is the Canada Port Authority (CPA) established to manage the Port of Prince Rupert under the Canada Marine Act. Seventeen CPAs now make up Canada's national port system. The CPAs are non-share capital corporations incorporated under the Canada Marine Act that are of strategic significance to Canada's trade. Their effective operation contributes to Canada's global competitiveness.

elmer is a 100% sellout

i am Gitxsan and to many in the Gitxsan nation this creature is nothing more than a open in your face government puppet & mercenary inside man.
he has no honour & in our traditions its custom for a creature like him to host a shame feast & hand over the hereditary title & name he has to save the name & title any further disgrace, to save his family and house from any further disgrace also.
elmer is a self-serving conman so this will not happen, he will openly & shamelessly continue to act as the government agent/inside man working treasonously against the Gitxsan nations interests in his self-appointed, government annointed post as our "representative" in treaty negotiations where elmer is literally taking a dive (boxing analogy) asking for basically what amounts to a jug of whisky... thats payable to him of course, screw everyone else just pay him & its all good, its like elmers calling card or signature.
Elmer is Disgrace to a Great Nation

This is Outrageous and goes to show The governments refusal to recognize and respect the wishes of The Gitxsan Hereditary Chiefs stand on the Closing and taking away the negotiating power of the GTS and Elmer Derrick for the Gitxsan Nation , He and the GTS has Been FIRED By all the High Chiefs of the house in Gtixsan Nation , and is just the governments way to try to circumnavigate and push through their agenda of the northern Gateway Pipe line .
The truth must be known and the Harper Government has to be made to listen instead of empowering turncoats that will sell out their nation in for short term personal financial gain
