The Kitimat Boxing club held a boxing tournament on Sunday, March 11th. Fight fans came out to cheer on 11 boxers in 6 bouts, two of which were judged. Participating were boxing clubs from Burns Lake and Prince Rupert.

The tried, tested and true boxers who went to the nationals were not boxing, two of them were coaching and one was refereeing the tournament.

The first bout was an exhibition between two young boxers, Alasdair McNeill and Arius Woytowich. Both boxers threw punches and blocked, McNeill going all out in the final round. However, as an exhibition, both boxers were winners.

The second exhibition was between Nathan Furtado and Jordon Craven, both from Kitimat. Both boxers gave it their all and fought fiercely.

The third fight of the afternoon was between Jonathan Turner from Kitimat and Woytowich who had fought in the first round. The two showed true camaraderie in, exchanging punches and offering advice through gestures

The Fourth and Final Exhibition came between Dalton McEntire from Burns Lake and Matthew Ruff from Kitimat. These two showed great skill in both punching and dodging blows, before opening up the throttle in the final round.

The first judged bout of the afternoon was between Aiden Abrue from Kitimat and Ty McEntire from Burns Lake. It was also one of the most vicious bouts. McEntire got knocked down twice in the first round and came away with a black eye. The fight doctor gave him a once over and McEntire got back into the ring. McEntire was knocked down twice more in the second round and Abrue was named the victor.

The Final Bout of the evening was between David Wilson from Kitimat and Qeunton Morrison From Prince Ruport. Wilson hammered on Morrison in the second round and Morrison kept Wilson against the ropes in the third. The fight came to judges decision for Wilson.
