REPORTING · 10th March 2012
Walter McFarlane
The annual Old Timers Tournament took place this past weekend, March 2nd, 3rd and 4th. It was a good tournament and one of the biggest tournament North of Prince George.

“This year we have 22 teams in the tournament. We have six women’s, four 50+, Eight 35+ and we also have an open division with any age on up so it’s a lot of guys from the leagues, the River Kings and the Ice Demons,” said Terry Marleau.

They expected to see some really strong games in the open league. Many of the teams came from Kitimat. The rest came from Terrace, Smithers and Hazelton. In addition, they had their traditional dinner at Riverlodge on Saturday, March 3rd.

Hazelton teams took 1st place in the Woman's Division and the Men's B Division. The Terrace Timbermen took 1st place in Fifty Plus Division. The Men's C Division was won by the Terrace Classics. Kitimat DCH Industries took 1st Place in the Open Division.

"The tournament committee decided to draw for the prises instead of presenting them to the division winners to emphasize fun and sportsmanship rather than winning. Overall the tournament was a huge success with 22 teams coming from all over the north." said Brian Wakita.

Marleau thanked all of the sponsors who helped make this year’s games a smash hit.
