NEWS RELEASE · 9th March 2012
Kitimat RCMP
The Kitimat RCMP wish to remind the public to be aware and vigilant of scams and frauds. Numerous telemarketing and prize pitch scams have been increasing in the area targeting both persons and business using various means including email, phone and mail.

RCMP are currently investigating fraud involving mailer that advises the consumer that they have won the lottery.

Once the consumer contacts the organization at the provided number the consumer is asked to send money to cover the cost of the tax on the winnings.

The consumer sends the cheque to a post office box that has a legitimate address and after they have your money no lottery winnings are ever received. If you think you have been a target of a scam or have already paid money, contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center or your local RCMP Detachment for further information and assistance. For current scam types, tips and prevention information also contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center. And remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
