REPORTING · 7th March 2012
This update is to clarify what is happening with our services. YES, we are in the process of renewing our contracts with the Ministry of Children and Families (MCFD), our major funder for the services we provide. MCFD has a very tight budget this year and contract increases are not occurring. This means for some contracts the amount we are funded is no longer covering the cost of providing services. So, we are looking for further efficiencies and will have to reduce but not close any services. Additionally, MCFD is implementing a new contract renewal processes and this may initiate some changes for our funding BUT our services will continue.
We are no longer being funded for our Family Fun Spot program (Family Resource Grants from MCFD). This is our parent and child drop in program held at the Centre a three times per week. This is a valuable program to provide to the community, so we are continuing to provide this program until the end of June 2012. We are in the process of looking for other funding to keep this program going.
NOW for the fun part - we are looking for a new name for the centre. Over the years to continue to meet needs in our community, we have expanded our services from child development to include a wide range of services:
Autism Behavioural Services
Occupational and Physiotherapy
Infant Development/Building Blocks
Preschools / Daycare
Community child and youth mental health
Supported Child Development
Child and Youth Care/Life Skills
THUS the name Child Development Centre no longer describes what we do and we are looking for a new name. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS? if so please let us know. If you have any questions, please contact Margaret Warcup at 250-632-3144 ext. 27 or mwarcup,,,kitýmatcdc.ca
