Councillor Corrine Scott brought forth a motion on January 16th to find out if there were beautification grants available and contact BC Hydro to find out costs to bury the overhead wires.
“A number of residential areas in Kitimat still have wooden poles and overhead wires installed by BC Hydro a number of years ago. This is outdated and unsightly. In order to provide the same services through out the community and improve the aesthetics of all neighbourhoods, new light standards and underground wires need to be installed,” said Scott.
Councillor Mario Feldhoff agreed as they were looking for information, not to commit them to anything. The motion was called and carried.
Overhead power lines

"Undergrounding is an expensive alternative, costing between 10 and 40 times more than overhead towers and lines. The cost to underground existing lines is the responsibility of the landowner or developer, not BCTC or BC Hydro."
