Kitimat received an award from the Learning Resources Network (LERN). Mayor Joanne Monaghan presented the award at Council on Monday, January 16th.
“The District of Kitimat Leisure Services Department has been honoured for excellence in the programming of LERN. The department has partners being recognized for using their primary resource, snow, to create the Kitimat Rail Jam, an event for youth to showcase freestyle skiing and snowboarding talent. This event is part of the Kitimat Winter Festival Celebrations and requires the creation of a snow hill in down town Kitimat. Now entering it’s forth year, the Rail Jam sells out easily as it draws competitors from around the region,” said Monaghan.
She thanked 101 Industries, the Chamber of Commerce, J Oviatt Contracting, Shawn Oviatt of Daucet Creek Construction, Bandstra Transportation, Fred’s Equipment, Rayz Board Shop in Smithers, Chance Healey, Shames Mountain and Marcy Rice.
Monaghan announced this years Rail Jam would be on the 27th at City Centre Mall. She called forth several representatives including Rice to receive the 2012 LERN Award for Excellence in Programming.
