District of Kitimat
Kitimat City Council meets tonight, at 7:30 Pm at the Council Chambers in the Public Safety Building. It will be a busy meeting.

The first item is the Monthly Police Report by Staff Sergeant Steve Corp. Following this report, the Kitimat Leisure services will be receiving an award from LERN. Margaret Sanou will be giving her 2012 Budget Presentation for the Retire in Kitimat Task Force. This is for a request for support by Lisa Frazer of the Kitimat Age Friendly Community Group and a request for a grant from Duncan Peacock from the Kitimat Marine Rescue Society.

Following approval of the minutes, the motions begin. From Councillor Mario Feldhoff is a motion for staff to bring a report to the next meeting as to whether licensing might be retracing the number of Taxi Cabs in Kitimat.

Councillor Corrine Scott brings three motions, the first is for Administration to bring back a report with recommended changes to the reflecting the costs of operating and participating in events. Scott’s second motion is to contact BC Hydro in respect to community beautification of outdated poles. Her third motion is about appointing a second alternate to represent Kitimat on the Regional District.

A motion from Councillor Phil Germuth comes next. The motion is for the District of Kitimat to survey the people of Kitimat as to their opinion on Enbridge.

The next pair of motions comes from Councillor Mary Murphy. Her first motion is to motion for Administration to investigate the cost of proper lighting in Cablecar. Her second motion is for Administration to investigate the cost of tying Cablecar into the sewer system.

There are six reports. The first two are Development Permit Applications for McElhanney Consulting and Mutual Construction respectively. The second report concerns approving $2500 for the Grant Writer Program.

The fourth report concerns an update on the Bear Smart Community Program. This is followed by a report on the Nechako Parking Lot Snow Clearing. Administration have stated they could clear the snow but this could delay snow removal in other areas. The final report is the statement of accounts for December.

There are three communications. All three of which relate to the presentations earlier in the meeting. They are from Retire Kitimat, The Age Friendly Community Proposal and Kitimat Marine Rescue
