Council is setting up for their 2012 Budget. Municipal Manger Ron Poole provided a report at the City Council Meeting on January 3rd regarding the upcoming budget. This budget will be using a new process.

On February 3rd, the departments have their 5 year operating plan and supplemental budgets to the treasurer.

On February 6th, community groups present to Council and Council sets their taxation increase and service levels.

Management meets of February 10th to bring the tax increase to 2.5%, although this could change at the February 6th meeting.

Management meets again on February 14th to finalize the budget presentation.

On Wednesday, February 22nd, Council meets with Management to receive an overview of the budget for 2012.

On February 27th, Council have input and final approval of the budget.

The Flat Tax Amendment Bylaw is expected to be passed on April 2nd, The budget is expected to be passed by May 7th.

Councillor Corrine Scott and Councillor Mario Feldhoff clarified Council will not be taking part in most of the first meetings, which will be dealt with administration. The only exception is the February 6th meeting which is a regular meeting of Council.

Feldhoff also wanted to know if Council would have a chance to discuss the supplemental budget. Poole explained this will take place on the 22nd and there was flexibility for extra meetings.

Feldhoff expressed he would like a spreadsheet like they have had in the past to go through and Poole replied that would be the intention.
