The Kitimat Youth Centre has a few new toys thanks to a donation from the First West Fund. The donator is Envision Financial, who is now a division of First West Credit Union. A trio of Laptops now let the youth access the internet from the Centre.
“Previously, we had very old, donated computers which pretty much didn’t work. I think 1 out of three worked, and it was hit and miss. Now we have three laptops, two of which are set up and they work all the time and their really nice. They are a huge draw for the people that come here because it’s free internet and people don’t have access to the internet at home,” said Erika Prett Program Manager of the Centre.
The laptops were all purchased locally. Envision has donated money towards the fixing up the bathroom in the past.
The youth at the Centre were pleased with this purchase. They commented the two and a half box style jalopy computers were replaced with happiness. The laptops will be used for Facebook, video games and homework. They noted there was more room on the desks for other things now as well.
