REPORTING · 7th December 2011
Walter McFarlane
The new City Council stood at the podium and swore their oaths at the Statutory Meeting on Monday, December 5th. The Council Chambers were packed with will wishers supporting the new Council who are their friends, neighbours and family.

Also present were two members of the RCMP Detachment in their full uniforms.

The Mayor, followed by each of the Councillors swore they are qualified to hold their office and they have not contravened the local government act respecting vote buying or intimidation. They will carry out the duties of their office without influence in their conduct. They will disclose direct and indirect pecuniary interests and will not discuss or vote on any matter involving those interests.

After swearing her oath and signing it, the Chain of Office was hung around Mayor Joanne Monaghan’s neck. At one point in the meeting, it clanged against the desk, prompting a joke from the Mayor about why the chain has been dubbed, her “bling.”
