COMMENTARY · 24th November 2011
I wish to thank the people of Kitimat for their participation in the election. Having a 55% turnout of eligible voters is amazing, and it's a clear indication that our residents pay attention and are not indifferent to the management of our beautiful community.
I was overwhelmed by the support shown me, and I will work diligently to earn your confidence.
I also wish to thank Ron Poole, Walter McLellan, Shirley Boudreau and the rest of the staff at the District offices for a well run election, they all put in long hours and it is very much appreciated.
I also wish to thank and acknowledge the outgoing Councillors, Bob Corless, Dr. Gerd Gottschling and Randy Halyk. Their dedication in sitting at the Council table for 16 years, 9 years and 3 years respectively is commendable. They all showed they wanted to help make this a community to be proud of. As Councillor Corless stated a number of times, all people have differing views and he felt that it made for healthy debate. I agree - debate is good, and working as a team in a respectful manner is critical. I look foward to the next three years - I feel we have the opportunity to improve and show the residents they have made good choices in voting for the new Council, and welcome Edwin Empinado, Phil Germuth and Mary Murphy.
