The next person asked what the candidates have done to attract more businesses and industry to the community.

Randy Halyk said this is a tough one. The economic development plan is in shambles and the economic development officer is off sick. He said he has been at every meeting he could be with industrial components. He accused the Mayor of attending industrial development meetings without letting Council know.

Joanne Monaghan explained when the economic development officer became ill, she took upon herself to take over the job. She said they had no one else and she took over economic development. She worked with the companies which are coming in, including Pytrade. They should see successes with in the next couple of months on Pytrade. There are other things coming up through the pipes. She has worked with the mall owner to get new businesses in. She is working with another man on a joint venture with the Haisla. She is working with the directors on Monkey Beach movie. It would help tourism as well, to bring attention to this part of the area.

Jim Thom said he has not been on council but he has done work. He is renting out buildings in town and they are 99% full. He works with local industry. He does any work in his buildings with local trades. He goes to economic development committees with in the community.
