REPORTING · 17th November 2011
Councillor Randy Halyk brought forward a document at the Council Meeting on Monday, November 7th.
“I received an email about the regional district and MK Bay. If I can read it…” He began to read:
“The BCSA has assessed the monetary penalty against the Regional District of Kitimat Stikine in the amount of $250 per day that the contravention continues. The penalty was issued on August 17th, 2011 and to date, we have not received any conformation of appliance or appeal.”
He explained this came from a Freedom of information request and as of the 7th, the amount would be $20,500. Mayor Joanne Monaghan asked for a motion on this.
Halyk made a motion to write the Regional District and request information as to why they would not take care of this. Halyk was not sure if Council had the right to do anything on this but MK Bay and the Regional District were parts of this community. He added he heard another contravention has happened and a further fine will be put forth in the future.
He said the community needed to be aware and make sure MK Bay was financially responsible.
Councillor Gerd Gottschling suggested asking Councillor Bob Corless, the regional Representative to fill in Council.
“First I’ve heard of it. I don’t know if you have the right information,” said Corless.
Halyk said he has seen two letters on it. Councillor Mario Feldhoff threw a tabling motion on the table until they could get more information. The tabling motion was carried, although it was spoken too after it was carried.
Corless added the District of Kitimat has nothing to do with the operation of MK Bay Marina. Gottschling reminded Corless the community contributes 33% of the funds to the Regional District. Corless said these go to certain things. Monaghan cut them off there so Council could continue.

What is going on with you the councillors ? Does nobody know what is going on ? This is ridiculous that Bob Corless doesn't know that The District Of Kitimat doesn't know where the TAXPAYERS MONEY IS GOING ? Thank goodness a couple of councillors know something.
