The seventh candidate to introduce themselves was Incumbent, Mario Feldhoff.
“Responding to the sudden Eurocan Closure required significant focus on Council’s part. The Eurocan Viability group put forward their legitimate plan to continue paper production, but sadly, did not receive its support from the senior governments or west Frasier. We implemented a combination of service cuts and tax increases to address a projected four million dollars year tax shortfall,” said Feldhoff.
Feldhoff stated the situation was improving and Council needs to restore services to previous levels and reduce taxes. He listened to people to keep the Kitimat Ice Rink Open.
He stated the new Municipal Manager is reducing the number of outstanding motions. He added they need to look beyond the mega projects.
He wants to see a West Side Road developed and talk with Northern Health Authority for the construction of more multi level care beds.
“Good things happen when people work together, be it the formation Retire Kitimat Group, Bull-O-Rama, Tennis Court Rejuvenation, replacing a dilapidated Animal Shelter or Alpine Skiing opportunities,” said Feldhoff.
