Question 1 :
is the most significant reason you are running for Council?
I am running to make a difference, I believe there are some exciting times ahead of us and I want to be part of it. I think that now's the time to move forward for change and growth in both the economy and with the moral of this community. I think we can attract sustainable businesses here to feed off of existing businesses, we just need to present it to them what we have to offer.
Question 2 : issue in our community do you see as the largest hurdle for the success in Kitimat?
Sustainable and viable industry that can benefit from what we already have (aluminium smelter), is it out of reach? ... all we can do is offer. We need industry to attract people to invest in our community (easier said than done?? lets try)
Question 3 :
is your stance on Enbridge, In Favour of, Opposed too or Neutral? Why?
At this time from what I’ve learnt up to this point I am opposed, reason being ... I don't believe the project will benefit the area in providing enough jobs and the possibility of a spill or leak would be detrimental to the environment whether on land or ocean, I feel that refining makes more sense and would provide jobs here in Canada (in Kitmat Or Alberta).
Question 4 :
we started this election, there were 13 candidates for Alderman. This number has dropped to twelve. Is thirteen a lucky number for Kitimat or is Twelve? Why?
Really , I guess that if your a baker then 13 would be lucky but it really doesn't matter how many people run for council there is still only 6 that will be elected so good luck to all and may the best 6 win.
Question 5 :
My view on derelict buildings, well at the last council meeting (oct 17th) this issue was brought up and I really didn't know then or now what is in our by-law but by the end of the presentation it was clear to me that the current council has been doing what they can with the wording in the by-law and yet its not working so what I propose is "LOOKING OUTSIDE THE BOX" what do I mean?? I mean that we should be tackling this as a Health and Safety issue forcing owners to take action to bring these building up to code or demolitioning as these buildings being vacant offer shelter for disease bearing rodents and safety concerns for our youth who accompany these areas as hanging out areas that could cause harm and /or injury.

It would take quite a bit to convince me of its benifits with all this LNG activity I honestly don't think we need it and like I say I'm here to represent, inform and respect the direction this community is headed. Joe Salema

Thank you Joe...I am a little concerned that you left the Enbridge thing kinda open...I can see you are against it now but that answer has your butt covered if we elect you and you change your mind. Do you think your mind could be changed? Thanks again and with much respect, Bill Vollrath
