Kitamaat Village Council met with Premier Christie Clark on Monday, September 18th.
“She wanted to announce an employment initiative and support for the LNG industry in Kitimat. We talked a little bit after that about some other issues the Haisla are interested in as well. The Haisla would like to see a more direct relationship directly with the Province rather than a round about way,” said Ellis Ross, Chief Councillor for Kitamaat Village.
Ross explained they are trying to get employment and training off the ground and they have done it without anybodies help. They would like to see the province come in and help.
He added the LNG might not be coming along as quickly as they hoped but it is a lot of work to prepare the land and they are happy with the progress made by the workers thus far. He expects it will pick up in the Spring.
