REPORTING · 13th September 2011

In case you haven’t heard, there is an election this year to determine who will sit on City Council. This is an opportunity to guide Kitimat through the following years.
Should you wish to run for Council, you would have to get two voters to nominate you. They also have to fill a declaration saying they would do this duty if elected. You would also have to list your campaign expenses.
If there are not enough people running, it gets readvertised and further names are solicited. If 6 people run for Councillor and 1 person runs for Mayor, everyone gets in by acclamation.
It is important to realize there is no campaigning on election day, including no radio ads and no campaigning near the polls.
Following are the important dates:
September 14th: The Election packages will be ready
October 4th: Filing of election packages begins.
4 Pm October 14th: The deadline to hand in a completed election package
November 9th: Advance Poll
November 16th: Advance Poll
November 19th: General Election Day
