Mayor Joanne Monaghan had great news at the beginning of the Kitimat City Council Meeting for September 6th.
“I received a letter from Tim Horton’s this week and I called the Senior Vice President, Jim Preston who signed the letter and I asked him, if he is going to be doing a press release, and he said ‘No, we don’t do press releases, we want the Mayor to do that,’” said Monaghan.
He instead asked Monaghan to read the letter at the Council meeting and make the announcement.
“’It was with great pleasure that I read that your City Council passed a motion to ask Tim Horton’s to establish a restaurant in Kitimat. I can tell you that a real estate team has been actively looking at Kitimat Markets and we have identified several possible sites. We are in a final stage of selecting a site and we hope to be open in 2012. Thank you for your interest,’” read Monaghan from the letter.
She announced the restaurant would be in the town site, 2700 square feet and 40-50 workers will build it.
There were applause for that piece of good news.

Always good to see new business opening up in town, especially businesses that can provide entry level employment to our town's youth population. A pre-emptive "Welcome to Kitimat"!
