On August 12, 2011, Kitimat RCMP received a report of an overturned boat in the Kitimat River. With the assistance of the Kitimat Fish Hatchery and Search and Rescue, the family was located a short time later on the far side of the river across from the boat launch area in the Cable Car subdivision.

A family of 5, including 2 children, was brought to shore. No injuries sustained.
