REPORTING · 4th August 2011
A former Kitimat Resident, Heidi Oeste, was at the Kitimat Public Library on august 3rd to talk about her book, “Never Give Up,” which is the story of Crofton Resident: Lillian Postgate. The book was published in 1999. This event was put on by Bookmasters.
Postgate and Oeste became friends in Crofton. Postgate would share her stories about how she coped with Multiple Sclerosis for 60 years. Oeste came up with the book, written as a fundraiser.
While Postgate claimed she was not important enough to have a book written about her, Oeste told her she was as she had coped with Multiple Sclerosis for 60 years and she was still taking care of her self and living in her own house.
Postgate shared her stories and Oeste went through the photo albums. The process took three years and during this time, Postgate had to be placed in a home to be cared for. The people in charge thought she was not going to survive longer. However, after receiving a copy of the book, she got better, sent books to her friends and lived for five more years.
All the proceeds from the book go to fight Multiple Sclerosis. For those of you who wish to read this tale of courage and Determination, two copies are available at the Kitimat Public Library and copies are available for sale at Bookmasters.
