On Saturday, July 30, 2011, at approximately 12:41PM, the Terrace RCMP, B.C. Ambulance Service and the Terrace Fire Department attended a 2 vehicle head-on collision between a passenger car and a SUV, about 30 kilometers east of Terrace, B.C. on Hwy. 16.
The head on collision occurred on the west side of the St. Croix creek bridge.
The SUV involved was a 2009 Hyundai Tucson Santa Fe which was driving westbound. There were two male occupants in the vehicle, both residents of Houston, B.C. As a result of the collision, this vehicle flipped onto its roof. Both male occupants suffered multiple injuries.
The car involved was a 2008 Pontiac G5 which was driving eastbound. There were two occupants in this vehicle, a male and female, both residents of Kitimat, B.C. This vehicle ended up in the eastbound lane ditch with severe damage to the front end. The female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver suffered multiple, life-threatening injuries, and was flown by air ambulance to Mills Memorial Hospital before being transferred to Vancouver General Hospital for further treatment.
Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in this collision.
The matter is still under investigation.
