REPORTING · 27th July 2011
Walter McFarlane
The Kitimat Fire Department pulled double duty on Tuesday, July 26th as both fire fighters and pizza delivery boys. This was a special event put on by the Emergency Awareness Program.

“We made three deliveries with four pizzas last night and all three homes had their smoke alarms in working condition so they all got their pizza on us. Two of them were expecting us, one was not and they were happy to see us.” said Stacey Reis who coordinated the event.

The idea was for the firefighters to deliver pizza in a fire truck. If they showed up on a doorstep, they would offer to check the home owners smoke alarms. If the smoke alarm was working, the pizza was free. If it was not, they would receive a working smoke detector.

They will be doing this one more time with Pizzarama on August 10th from 6:30 to 8:30 so they could work with both pizza places and give both of them a boost in business. The program was a success and could possibly continue for years to come.
