REPORTING · 19th July 2011
Office of Premier
Ministry of Labour, Citizens' Services and Open Government

With a new, citizen-focused government website, release of open datasets and proactive posting of freedom of information requests and government expenses, B.C. has become a national leader in open government, said Premier Christy Clark.

"We are changing our approach to governing by putting citizens at the centre of our web services and making government data and information more freely available," said Premier Clark. "Open government is about sharing information and giving British Columbians more opportunities to
participate in decisions that make a difference in their lives."

The B.C. government website, www.gov.bc.ca, has been redesigned to focus on frequently used services, making it easier for families and businesses to find the services they are looking for. The website features DataBC, a new open data site, and Open Information, an information release site as part of government's commitment to be more connected, open and responsive.

B.C. is the first provincial government to create a site like DataBC www.data.gov.bc.ca - a catalogue of nearly 2,500 sets of data that, overtime, will increase as new datasets become available. This data is free, searchable and available for anyone to use and repurpose.

A broad range of datasets are available, such as birth rates, carbon emissions statistics and information on schools. Opening up this information will help people make informed decisions, conduct research, analyze statistics and develop applications.

Also beginning today, the B.C. government will proactively release information requested through Freedom of Information (FOI). Information released through the FOI process will be posted on the new Open Information website www.openinfo.gov.bc.ca at least 72 hours and up to a maximum of five days after being released to the applicant.

Ministers' and deputy ministers' travel expenses will also be posted monthly to the Open Information website as these are items regularly requested and released through the FOI process.

To support these changes, the Premier and Members of the Executive Council have issued a direction to all ministries that outline how government will continue to build on its commitments.

"Together, these websites and the work behind them are an integral and necessary part of government delivering on our commitment to be more open and accessible," said Labour, Citizens' Services and Open Government
Minister Stephanie Cadieux. "With today's announcement we become national leaders and I assure you there's more to come."

books to raw loggs and the real lumber cut in bc will never be discosed.. power sales deals made by the liberals will never see. tell the pulic.only make it all out mining the same.all just to confuse the real numbers . cooked books. some one got paid, sure wasn`t the people of bc. look at the lotto corperation.billions in revenaue but only one went to the health care and other.. like the fairy deal and the 1.1 million to the ceo. , the bc rail deal a few million pocketed there and we ,the tax payer left to pay the court cost and the lawyers walked of with millions too. don`t forget mr. campbel portfolio ,with all them alcan shares. what a sweet deal for the politition we elected to protect british columbia`s.. more like stole the assets. Audit the hole dam works. why not.we have a right to see , who`s stealing from this province. make then accountable.will the true ever come out.never.the jails would be full . but yet the people are audited here with small incomes of a few thousand dollars. what about the millions scammed from this goverment. people need to speak up,let`s see the true fact`s.like most, you don`t care.wake up and ask for answers..if you cared enough as i do,you will. still no real concrete of true from any.that the goverment tells you and no proof. but yet you get a charge of any kind, your guilty till proven innocent..wasn`t that way for the bc rail deal. sure all piles sweeped under the rug. more like every one for themselfs.good luck. money buys most everything, but without it your just a bum in poverty,no assets,no land,a nobody. yet we paid for lawyers to defend the crook`s of this province. the true hurts but i thought i`d say my 2 cents. it is what it is,resorces sold for penny`s on the dollar.pretty much speaks for itself. the proof has been seen for years what this liberal party has striped this provice of nature resources. tax relief for the million dollar ticoons, perchasing large scale of land. owners. . mostly foregn to this country. yet hunreds of thousands can`t afford a home in there area of living here. can`t blame the people, they have no excess to goverment revenue.only the liberals,i mean all. what is stolen behind close doors one way or another you got your share too(some busness owners),and you know who you are. they are in every community across this province.that who to blame.working side by side with the bc goverment. pushing the h.s.t. down are throats. banks included. when is enough enough. i`ll do fine looking after my family but to those less unfortunate.who`s looking after there best interests.,child poverty is raising fast. who will speak up for them. just send them a welfare check.make it stretch, while minamun wage stays low, a goverment job pays over 23 to 35 dollar an hour . don`t forget the pensions handed out,in the politic`s arena. most people have to work another ten /20 years for a income like that. enough is enough. worked to death to survive while others raped it with no accountablity.
