The lady of the year this year was Yvonne Lee. She was nominated by 20 members of the community. She was nominated for her outstanding work at the Looking for Love Animal Shelter.

“She spent weekends getting all the paperwork done and the building was done, all from setting it up as a non profit to going out and buying bedding for the animals,” said Monica Rigoni.

She put in countless hours looking after animals and making sure the new shelter was working. “She’s been a lady and helped a lot of people in the community, including the four legged ones and a lot of the two legged ones,” read Rigoni from a letter.

“It was because of a lot of other people in our community that made this possible and I would like to thank everyone who was such a big part of building the shelter, thank you,” said Lee as she received the award on Canada Day.

“Yvonne spent hours and hours and hours building that shelter,” said Mayor Joanne Monaghan. “She’s a dedicated, dedicated individual for our community and our community is much better for it.”
