REPORTING · 7th July 2011
It was July 1st and time for the Canada Day Parade. It was raining but this did not alter the course of the festivities. The theme was Canada Goes Green and there were a number of floats dragging tin cans and laden with recycled material.
Notable floats included the Rio Tinto Alcan Float which won the award for Best Business, the Riverlodge float which won for best youth and the Luso Canadian float which won for best service club. Best Overall went to the Douglas Channel Watch for their float.
Also out were the Rotarians with a giant dove kite trailing behind them, Overwaitea with their shopping bags laden with all kinds of novelties and goodies and the Ice Demons Sporting the Coy Cup.
Member of Parliament, Nathan Cullen, Member of Legislative Assembly, Robin Austin and Mayor of Kitimat, Joanne Monaghan were also out. In addition, there was the City of Terrace Float for Riverboat Days coming later this year.
This was also one year in which one attraction had to peel off from the parade, as the Ambulance near the front received an emergency call during the parade.
