REPORTING · 7th July 2011
Walter McFarlane
Mayor Joanne Monaghan stepped down from the chair, promoting Randy Halyk to acting Mayor at the City Council Meeting on Monday, June 20th to put a motion on the table. The motion was to write Tim Hortonís and Starbucks and ask them to take another look at Kitimat.

ďI had heard that Tim Hortonís were interested in Kitimat as were Starbucks so I thought of writing them and giving them a little indication that we were interested in having them in our community, not to downplay the coffee shops that are in Kitimat now because I think we have some good ones but to just add to the number and sometimes itís great to have a choice and people might not go down the road to shop, they might stay here and have some coffee,Ē said Monaghan.

Councillor Randy Halyk stepped down from the acting Mayor Chair to ask a question. He had heard there will be a Tim Hortonís at the camp being constructed by Rio Tinto Alcan. Monaghan said she did not know and they will find that out.

The Motion was called and Carried.
Nice to see.

It's nice to see Council proactively reaching out to businesses to tell them what Kitimat has to offer. Kudos.
