Rev Larry Scott offers a prayer after the unveiling of the headstone
REPORTING · 28th June 2011
Walter McFarlane
A headstone rededication service was held for Able Seaman John L Miniken was held at Kitimat Cemetery on June 25th. Miniken was Veteran of World War II and this was done as a part of Legion Week.

Miniken’s story was told by living relative, Peter White. He served in the Australian Navy during the war and was taken prisoner. He survived one of the worst labour camps in the war. After the war, he journeyed until he came to Kitimat. He died in a fire while working at Alcan in 1956.

Recently, his relatives were sent a picture of his headstone. It did not please them to know the marker had worn away and they wanted a better headstone on the grave of a fallen soldier who served in the Second World War.

The last post was played followed by two minutes of silence.
